At times, students may need to retake a course for various reasons. The following are the circumstances under which course retakes are permitted:

Failed course – If a student fails a course and needs the course for credit and/or to meet grade level or graduation requirements, the student can re-enroll and retake the course.

Course grade of D – If a student receives a grade of D in a course and wants to increase their learning of the course content and/or attempt to earn a higher grade, the student can re-enroll and retake the course one time.

Course grade of Incomplete (I) – A course grade of Incomplete (I) is awarded when a student has not completed an adequate amount of coursework to be awarded a final grade and credit. If a student fails to complete a course and receives an “I,” the student must choose one of the following options within 6 months of the course end date or the course grade will automatically be converted to an “F” in the student’s academic record and transcript:

- Course Extension – If the majority of the original course work was completed by the student, a course extension opportunity may be offered.

- Course Retake – The student can re-enroll in and retake the course.

- Credit Recovery – A credit recovery version of the course may be taken if available and advised.

- Course Grade Converted to an F – The student’s grade can be converted from an “I” to an “F.”

It is important to note that all attempts of courses will appear on the student’s official transcript. In the case of a course retake, the initial course grade will be converted to RC (retaken course), indicating the course has been retaken, and the initial grade will not be calculated in the student’s GPA.
